Activity Safety

RVR provides a number of unique challenging experiences that are a wonderful tool in teaching teamwork, self-confidence and lasting spiritual lessons.

Oh, and did we mention that they are a TON of fun as well?! That being said, safety is our number one priority for every activity. Our summer staff are provided with an instruction guide for every major activity. In the activities guide there are instructions on how to run the activity with safety in mind. In addition, some of our activities, like horses, paintball and high adventure require an extra week of training before camp begins. Here are a few specifics about the training and safety precautions we take for some of these activities:

Pool Safety

There are always at least two lifeguards on duty whenever the pool is open. Every lifeguard is Lifeguard and CPR certified through the American Red Cross. In addition, all lifeguards are trained how to use an Automated External Defibrillator (that is kept at the pool).

Campers must pass a swim check upon arrival at camp to determine their strength as a swimmer. Swimmers wear a wristband to alert lifeguards on duty that those without them cannot swim well and must remain in shallow areas at all times. All pool water is tested to ensure it is within safe swimming conditions.

Horse Safety

We require every camper on a horse to wear a helmet. All of our wranglers are extensively trained in horse safety by our CHA (Certified Horsemanship Association) certified staff. These full-time staff supervise our year-round horse programs and are responsible for overseeing everything from trail rides to horse and barn maintenance.

Adventure & High Ropes Safety

Whether it's our 1500’ triple zip line, climbing wall, giant swing or high ropes elements, we want to ensure that each one of these activities are as safe as possible. An independent contractor, the Adventure Guild, inspects and certifies all of our ropes courses each year to ensure that they are in proper working order. We do extensive training with staff on course safety, and the Adventure Guild tests and approves our staff to run the course.

On our Ropes Course, we have recently installed a brand new state of the art SmartSnap belay system that ensures that at no time can a participant unclip from any of the elements while on the course. This exceeds all industry standards for high ropes courses. See the SmartSnap system in action >>
